Pronounced as “mo-eh“, it is a Japanese slang term used often in anime and manga to describe a deep love or fetish for a character or attribute. For example, those with an attraction to characters wearing glasses would coin the phrase “meganekko-moe” (megane means glasses, ko translates as girl) when describing what they think of the person or attribute.
A popular phenominon in Japan and gaining more use with the fans in the West, it is even subject to in jokes by animes like Lucky Star and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya when describing one of their own characters. In particular the series Lucky Star, which does extremely well in stereotyping their main characters, has a female called Miyuki which has plenty of moe traits.
