In the long lasting fight against fansubs, Viz Media has announced that they will be streaming the latest anime episodes of the highly popular Naturo Shippuden a week after the Japanese broadcast episode! This is quite a turnover because popular groups that fansub Naturo on average take a week to turn out the subtitles so Viz Media has gone aggressive to go head to head with them.
Here is the press statement.
The North American anime distributor Viz Media has announced that it will begin streaming the latest episodes of the Naruto Shippūden anime sequel within a week of their Japanese broadcast premiere — for free — on January 15. The next latest episode will be added every Thursday thereafter.
In addition, the official Naruto.com website will stream the first eight episodes of Naruto Shippūden for free on January 2. The website will add eight more episodes every Friday thereafter until all of the earlier episodes are online. Naruto.com is already streaming the episodes of the first Naruto ninja action series, and its ad-supported streams are available to users in the United States and Canada.
This is great news as the list of legal anime online now is growing every month and we will have a feature as well as a comprehensive list of all legal anime you can watch online, here on eMagi within the next few days. Believe it! (groan)

A very interesting perception of things and yet totally incorrect. The main fansubbing group for Naruto usually released in less than 24 hours after the Japan airing of the show.
Secondly, Viz Media never asked Dattebayo to stop subbing Naruto. On the contrary, as of the 21 of Nov dattebayo has claimed they will stop fansubbing out of good gesture towards Viz.
Do some reasearch so you atleast seem to have your facts straight.

Point 1 - Correct about [DB] as they are on the ball. Not sure about the other fansubbers or indeed if people watch theirs after. I did say on average though that it takes a week but with a team as popular as the one mentioned, they don’t need that extra time
Point 2 - I never stated that Viz Media asked DB to stop subbing Naruto. If you thought I did, was it because of this line…
“This is quite a turnover because popular groups that fansub Naturo on average take a week to turn out the subtitles so Viz Media has gone aggressive to go head to head with them.”
When I wrote this, the main point I was talking about was the timing of their releases - 7 days. So by offering the official episode so soon, still in Japanese but with English subtitles and being totally legal, supports the whole movement to legal anime streaming. Which is a good thing. If by my phrasing “head to head” made it sound like Viz Media contacted DB to stop subbing the anime then I shall be more careful with my words to avoid future confusion to our readers. It would certainly not be intentional on my behalf.
Of course soon after this, Crunchyroll announced that 24 hours after the Japanese Broadcast, they too will have subtitles available for subscribers to watch, which in turn would match the timing of DB. If it matches the quality of translation though is another argument in itself.
