Recently, PETA wrote to Sega to complain about a Nintendo Wii advert advertising their latest game, Samba De Amigo. We wrote about PETA previously about how they were promoting awareness about the cruelty of animals and found something very wrong with what Sega did. Here is the statment given to Sega:
We explained how involuntary chimpanzee “actors” are taken away from their mothers when they are just a year or so old and forced to perform confusing and repetitious tricks. We also explained some of the horrible methods that chimpanzee “trainers” use, such as electric shocks with shock collars and prods, isolation, beatings with sawed-off pool cues and slapjacks, and food deprivation. Then, at the ripe old age of just 8, the chimpanzees reach puberty and their showbiz careers are over?and they end up being dumped at dismal roadside zoos or sold to laboratories for experimentation.
Sega, being the kind folk they are, and to avoid a negative media frenzy towards the family friendly demograph the Nintendo Wii represents, decided to pull the offending advert upon their request. As a geusture of kindess PETA responded by sending a Thank You card and a couple of vegan chocolates, shaped like monkeys.
Missed the advert that caused all of this? Well here it is for you to judge for yourself.
