At long last the classic game is being remade for the Nintendo Wii! You would have thought that more boxing games would have made it to the Nintendo Wii since being featured in Wii Sports (with a lot of faults admittedly) however there doesn’t seem to be many… Until now! Check out the brand new trailer for it, hot off the press!
Since its so new, not a lot of information was given during the announcement, such as if its compatible with the previously announced Wii Motion Plus add-on, or will simply be controlled with the Wii remote and Nunchuck. Fans of the 1984 arcade original release will fondly remember the 6 opponents you had to fight against:
- Glass Joe
- Piston Hurricane
- Bald Bull
- Kid Quick
- Pizza Pasta
- Mr. Sandman
However many of my generation will remember the NES version of which had Mike Tyson as the final boss character. I highly doubt that he will return as the final boss this time out so I wonder if Nintendo has something special up their slieve. The last Punch Out videogame out of the four previous sequels was on the SNES and had up to 16 opponents so one would hope that the Wii version will have at least as many opponents to fight against.
No word was given as well about possibly online Wi-Fi battles too, however the potential is there. Just imagine, online gameplay with 1 Vs 1 battles plus the Wii Speak peripherial that will be out with Animal Crossing and it could add some lively gameplay elements! I hope though that Nintendo attempts to realise this potential however we shall wait and see!
