New to Nintendo’s line of games is the ‘Wii de Asobu Selection‘, translated as ‘Play on the Wii Selection‘. What this means is that Nintendo are planning to re-release a select handful of classic Gamecube games but with enhanced controls. Think if it similar to what Capcom did with the Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition.
Sounds good to you? Well it should because the current list of titles sound extremely good:
- Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (to be released on December 11, 2008)
- Pikmin (December 25, 2008)
- Chibi Robo (2009)
- Pikmin 2 (2009)
- Mario Tennis GC (2009)
- Metroid Prime (2009)
- Metroid Prime 2: Dark Echoes (2009)
Great stuff as this will actually mean that the whole Metroid Prime Trilogy will be available to play with the Wiimote on the Nintendo Wii! If Nintendo manage to capture the level of feel and control that Metroid Prime: Corruption did then fans are in for a treat, new and old. I can see Donkey Kong Jungle Beat being a good party game, using the Wiimotes instead of the drums and Mario Tennis could actually turn out to be that killer Tennis game on the console - Until Mario Tennis Wii gets announced (if it will or not we will have to wait and see)!
One series though from that list will please many, and that is Pikmin. Not many people sadly took this game on when it was released on the Gamecube however it was extremely fun to play and quite challanging. Now with Wiimote support it will be even easier and faster to select, group and throw those little Pikmin about on the screen.
Chibi Robo is a lesser known title because it was released late on in the Gamecube’s life and there was hardly any promotion on it. From what I know you control a mini robot and it is your duty to keep the place clean by doing various tasks.
I hope though that this is just the start of things to come, as a Wind Waker remake would be highly welcome along with a possible Mario Sunshine enhancement. Sadly though all of this news was for Japan only and we can only hope and pray we will get this in the West too.
