Yes you have heard right, Nintendo has announced that their highly popular hand held the Nintendo DS will get an upgrade! The rumour mill has been doing the rounds before E3 but nothing materialised but now it seems Nintendo are ready to let loose and to carry on dominating the hand held market.
A camera will be equipped into the Nintendo DS itself and Nintendo have stated that it can be used for gameplay purposes also like taking your picture for your face to be in the videogame. Hopefully though it won’t be a 1-2 megapixel camera and instead have a 3.2 megapixel one, however I would not be surprised if it was lower to reduce costs.
Other enhancements is that it will be able to play back music formats natively, however as it stands we do not know for sure which formats are supported. Assuming MP3 will make the grade, ACC support would also be nice along with WAV and WMA. Also it is not known if there will be internal flash memory built in for such media storage or Nintendo will release an adapter to hold memory cards like MicroSD.
A welcome addition though is enhanced wireless capabilities which will allow the Nintendo DS to connect to “information terminals” to further expand itself beyond gaming. I personally though would like to see the Nintendo DS being able to handle better and stronger wireless encryptions such as WPA2 instead of the WEP only model currently.
