Manga Entertainment has announced that the original plan of releasing the first two episodes of Hellsing Ultimate together on one DVD has now been scrapped. The reason being was that they apparently did not have ‘consent to release both‘ episodes together and thus was forced to re-schedule. Now there will only be one episode per DVD release in the UK, much like the US release. Below is the press release explaining the changes.
“Please note that there has been a change with the DVD release of Hellsing Ultimate. The release will now be as follows:”
- HELLSING ULTIMATE VOLUME 1 – out to buy 13th October 2008
- HELLSING ULTIMATE VOLUME 2 - out to buy 29th December 2008
“Both releases will now be a single disc retailing at £14.99. Manga Entertainment would like to apologise for any disappointment this may cause fans. Unfortunately Manga do not have consent to release both volumes together.”
That is certainly a shame and hopefully not the shape of things to come with such releases. While OVAs do not generally run as long as normal anime series, it would still be nice to have both episodes on a DVD. It seems that this was more to do with earning as much as possible from the franchise, however I’m sure loyal fans will still buy the title to support the cause.
