Not long ago now until the largest anime convention in the UK takes place in Leicester, 8th-10th August. With capacity to accommodate of around 1500 fans it should be quite an event and hopefully, not too stuffy! All I can hope is that fans have heard of de-oderant! Joking aside this will be my first Amecon event and I am looking forward to this. Many of my friends from eMagi and TokyoToys will be in attendance and I shall be trying to give you live reports direct from the event via my trusty Nokia N95.
Amecon has been running since 2004 and has gathered a loyal following for the scale and organisation of their events from the usual masquerade to the more elaborate discos and parties late at night, along with dedicated gaming rooms, anime screenings, announcements and more. Just looking at the list on the Amecon forum, there will be…
Omake: Funny skits performed by fans in front of an audience much like a Variety Show. I have seen some of these before and it can be very funny… Or very funny for the wrong reasons! I often cringe at such things as technical issues, bad timing or kits that last 10 hours tend to kill the energy and atmosphere at such events. I shall try though to capture video’s of these and will upload the best ones.
Photo Shoots: Free photo shoots are available to all cosplayers during the day, masquerade and the cosplay ball. I’ll be trying to get some more snaps too during this weekend as I didn’t manage to over the London Expo. Since this is over 3 nights there will be no excuse! Barring running out of space on my 4GB memory card…
Workshops: Cosplay workshops will be open around the place to help with emergancy repairs to cosplay outfits as well as offering advice on how to create cosplays, sewing techniques, patterns and much more. Hopefully soon I can court an experienced cosplayer for eMagi to help write such guides too for our fellow readers.
Special guests include prolific voice actress Kari Walgren and cultural ambassador Akemi Solloway, we will also be joined by band Gothika. I have met Akemi before and she is really sweet and does a fantastic job promoting Japanese Culture and more to such fans and I would highly recomment visiting her during Amecon for her lectures and to say hello to her whne you can. Kari has been involved in many animé projects such as being Saya in Blood+, Fuu in Samurai Champloo, Kagami from Lucky Star and Ashe from Final Fantasy XII, amongst many other roles. I shall try to get a picture of her during the weekend along with other special guests.
Looking forward to this and some good times. Expect plenty of coverage!
