However it won’t be around for quite some time yet, as the Nintendo Wii continues to sell and attract new gamers to its unique blend of gameplay. Nintendo shook up the industry by thinking outside the box when the concept and deployment of the Nintendo Wii was finalised. Many said it wouldn’t work, many said it would be a fad, many made jokes of the name (and still do) however, I don’t think those people can doubt that it has been a success at what it wanted to achieve - To bring new gamers and a new demograph into the mix.
Speculation is rife as ever as to what the Nintendo Wii 2 will bring to the table. Could it evolve the motion sensing abilities further, go back to traditional controls or even… Have a hard drive! (shock, horror!).
I do hope though at at least in terms of technical prowess it manages to be a lot closer to Sony and Microsoft, whilst still being as efficient in terms of energy consumption and accessibility. While I do rate the hardware in the Wii, not enough companies are pushing it, with only Capcom with its Resident Evil 4 engine even trying. Once coded and developed from the ground up, the games can still look attractive to play, even in this modern HD era.
I doubt that we will hear anything specific for the Nintendo Wii 2 anytime soon, or indeed if it is called that but its nice to know that they are looking into the possibilities of pushing the industry forward once more.
