The popular series Cowboy Bebop (currently on the Anime Channel CH199) has been pencilled in to be turned into a live action movie. The deal is still in the very early stages and film producer Erwin Stoff (The Matrix, A Scanner Darkly) will be involved in the project. Erwin has promised to be as true as possible to the franchise, being quoted in stating that “a real degree of faithfulness” will ensue and “When I met with them in Japan, one of the first things that I brought up was the experience that we had on A Scanner Darkly, and how hard we worked to remain faithful to Philip K. Dick, and that was our big concern here.”
It seems as Hollywood are as ever on the look out for more comic/manga/anime to movie tie-ins they are spreading their spectrum to the most popular Japanese franchises with the latest live action flick to be Speed Racer. It will be interesting to see how this turns up if followed through and indeed who would play the main characters… I can see many wanting to know who would play the sultry Faye Valantine already…
