Being touted as the rival to Clannad for this seasons hot Drama/ Romance series is Ef – A tale of memories, adapted from the Visual novel “ef - a fairly tale of the two” by Minori. There was much rumour and speculation regarding this title earlier in the year as this is SHAFT’s surprise addition to the fall calendar. The Character designs are very appealing as with all of SHAFT’s work and from the preview there is definitely an interesting and atmospheric story line to go with the beautiful animation. The opening song is “euphoric field” by Tenmon feat. ELISA.
The only problem this season is with so many harem drama’s on offer it’s definitely based on who can offer something different to the table, as to whom will win the audiences this season.
The story itself revolves around the protagonist Hirono Hiro, a high school student who draws shoujo manga for a living. One cold Christmas night he meets a strange woman in a church, who tells him he’s going to meet someone who will be important in his life; subsequently his bike is then stolen by a strange girl. Her runs after her and finds her collapsed in the street, her name is Miyamura Miyako and her bag has been stolen by a guy on a motorbike. After that the pair of them start spending a lot of time together and Miyako falls head over heals for Hiro much to the displeasure of his childhood friend Shindou Kei.
I’ve been waiting for this series and I’m hoping there will be something unique about this particular love triangle. Here’s hoping it’s an interesting addition to this season.
