Now for something slightly different this season, Blue Drop: Tenshi-tachi no Gikyoku is being billed as a school girl, Sci-fi, shoujo-ai drama. Which I have to admit I did find very intriguing after all it’s always nice to have variety. Blue Drop is based on the manga by Akihito Yoshitomi, The 3D modeling is done by GONZO and the animation production is by Ashi Productions and BeSTACK.
In 1995, all 800 habitants of the isolated Kamikakushi Island vanished in one night, all but a single girl who has no memory of what happened. The causes of the disappearances were never identified. Four years later the girl named Mari Wakatake who is the only survivor of the events transfers to a girl’s dormitory school, which is where she first encounters Hagino. Hagino is the school idol and head of the student council, her record at the school is completely flawless she seems perfect, perhaps a little too perfect. All of this changes however the moment she touches Mari’s hand, Hagino freaks out, attempts to strangle Mari her eyes glowing an unearthly blue. Afterwards Hagino acts like nothing happened leaving Mari confused and extremely angry. The question is what is Hagino and how are her and Mari connected concerning the events all those years ago?
The series like most of the fall season is in HD, and from the preview the 3D scenes are stunning, this series seems to have a really nice alternative appeal to it. Hopefully if the pacing is good and the plot lines engrossing this could be an interesting Sci-Fi choice for those bored of to much harem drama. I’ll review the series in more detail as of my episode one review, stay tuned.
