Many Gundam fans have been waiting in anticipation as soon Bandai announced a new Gundam series was in the works - Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (pronounced “Double O”). From the previews the action looks very slick, much more so than the previous TV series in Gundam Seed Destiny and Gundam Seed. It looks to be more focused on the politics of war and indeed the darker sides of it from what I understand which should lead to some interesting characterisation and plot twists. ,/br>
From the screenshots the Gundams look more leaner and seem to be more aggressive in appearance to illustrate that they are not toys of violence, but machines of war with purpose. It will also be the first Gundam series to be made in High Definition (or Hi-Vision as its known in Japan) which allows us and the producers to create some stunning scenes full of detail.
Taking place in 2307 AD, the faction known as The Celestial Being has declared war on mankind of which has acquired a Perpetual Energy Source. Their aim is to use force to end the war yet they are caught in a paradox of using the same means of action that they wish to prevent in the first place. Four Mobile Suits are deployed into battle with that task, each with different abilities and characteristics it seems, however I yet do not know the names of the models or indeed their unique capabilities.
Its shaping up well and the character design look more gritty, perhaps reflecting the general tone of the animé itself to try and represent the war and the politics behind it. For some people they will be keeping an eye out for any attractive character designs or “moe girls” but I’m sure the cast will be revealed as time goes on. The opening song it seems is by L’Arc En Ciel and is titled “Daybreaks Bell”.
