McDonald’s has announced that from today they will be offering free Wireless to everyone! Fantastic news for those with WiFi enabled devices like the Nokia N95 mobile phone and portable hand-helds like the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. It is unclear how it will all work and if you would have to register with an email address and login just to keep track of usage and abuse, however it is nice to see things moving forward much like it has in the USA. With the free WiFi available it should make users of capable devices much more appreciative to check out the latest news, train times and much more free of charge.
This in turn could put pressure on mobile networks as if there are many WiFi hotspots and more devices become WiFi aware then things like emails, IMs and media can be sent for no extra cost. Even VoIP services like Skype, Truphone and Fring will benefit from such moves in the marketplace. I’m sure Google will be keeping a close eye on procedures as well as it have been rumoured that the outfit are looking into becoming an Internet Service Provider and possibly a Telecoms player to join the ranks of Vodafone, O2 and others. Certainly interesting days ahead…
