Halo developer Bungie splits from Microsoft

Rumours have been flying around for a week or so but it was announced that the famed developer of the highest grossing videogame at launch (amassing more than $170million) will indeed be parting ways with Microsoft. Details are not totally clear as to why but we believe that creative differences ultimately created the rift. However that does not mean the highly popular Halo franchise will be making its way to rival consoles - Microsoft will still have a stake in the company and indeed are still their main publisher for future titles, keeping their status as the main platform for future projects but not outright exclusivity.

Much like Retro Studios finishing up with the Metroid Prime series on the Nintendo Wii, Bungie will seek different challenges to create new games to flex their muscles.
