iPod07nano

The next generation of music players from Apple have been unveiled to the public today with the most striking addition being the new iPod Touch. This device is basically like its iPhone brethren but without the voice calling features and comes in 8gig or 16gig flavours.

The whole range has been given video and photo capabilities as well thanks to having a screen added, even on the small iPod Nano. Prices for the iPod Nano start at £99 for 4gig and £129 for the 8gig version. It features a vibrant 320×240 screen which is ample to view images on the go and small video clips.

The iPod Classic is up next and is the one I’ll be purchasing very soon. It has been redesigned to be thinner and of course sports video and photo playback. The 80gig version will retail for £159 and the higher capacity 160gig weighing in at £229.

iPodtouch

Last but not least is the iPod Touch, one that our writer Walking Leaf almost bought today! It comes in both 8gig and 16gig flavours costing £199 and £269 respectively. Featuring a 3.5″ touchscreen (same as iPhone), WiFi, internet browser and built-in accelerometer, it has many of the features the iPhone has. While it certainly looks the business and is great for moving about, I think many would still opt for the iPhone myself.

quite impressive. Means the older models are gonna bomb in price. But who’d want want. I like the photo and video clip abilities of the new nano’s. The touch pod looks like a really snazzy neat little device. Would like to see it in real terms to see how it works. But it does play youtube clips, which is what the net is made for.

I want the ipod touch so bad. If it works and looks anything like the iPhone then it’ll be so good to use.

I’d almost certainly say the touch pod will play youtube clips Yink. The reason they wont play out of the box for the iphone is down to java and some legal reasons. ( all of which can be gotton around via a few programmes )But these are different.

I will deffo get one of these over the iPhone.

1. It’ll be £300+ when it come over here ( I reckon )
2. I dont care for convergence much. Something always gets compromised too much, and with everything getting smaller I dont mind carrying a couple of devices around with me.
3. Internet on a phone? Just WHY? OK so EVERYONE is saying the iphone will change your mind about this. WRONG! I dont have 3G in my area, the phone dont have 3G, and in order to get the most out of it, you need no limit web contract. Just how much will that be in the UK!!!!!!?

Nah give me one of these anyday. Just not now cos I’m skint, but deffo by end of the year.

The only thing is, is the stingy gig space, I got 30+ gig in music alone ( mostly 328kbps ) though I think I’m right in thinking it’s flash based. So it’ll be fast and jog-proof ….me? Jog? Ha yeah right ‘o

Yeah I kinda skimped some details but the iPod Touch is youtube ready out of the box, using the WiFi. The Nano is pretty cool however I have my eye on the 160gig iPod Classic myself… While the iPod Touch is nice 8/16gig isn’t enough storage really and I wouldn’t be happy taking it out too often incase it gets stolen.

As for your points Snige…

1. Easily over £300 if they’ve stopped selling the 4gig version of the iPhone.

2. The iPhone doesn’t have a flash nor can record video. I know a new update I think has enabled MMS but many things are still limiting. As a music and video player though is is more than capable, hence the birth of iPod Touch…

3. Internet on the go does work well, T-Mobile has a “web & walk” package, unlimited internet use for £7.50 a month (subject to fair usage). Also I suspect that since the new iPhone in the USA now has HSPDA support, the European counterpart will have 3G.

I was about to buy one like NeoBlade mentioned in his post and in the last minute, decided to cancel my order on the 16GB iPod Touch. How come? Well, I REALLY WANT the iPhone and I’m more impressed by the mobile devise over the new touch-interface iPod. Plus the lack of online fuctions like Googlemaps and Mail (for checking emails) means the new iPod doesn’t compare to the iPhone.

I am now weighing up the options whether to buy the iPod Classic (now up to 160GB and I hear NeoBlade is considering one), the iPod Touch or wait for the UK release of the iPhone. Christmas is my deadline and if the iPhone is not out, then I get the iPod instead.

Saying that, I’m off to the Far East in November. Can get these Apple products at a much better price than in the UK.

Oh, need to add this: Apple will host another Expo on September 25th, we might even get news on a 3G iPhone heading to Europe this year.

If this doesn’t happen, then I will get the new iPod. I just wish the iPod Touch had a bigger hard drive over a pathetic 16GB storage.
