The level of detail is pretty sweet and the level of refraction given off by the glossy exterior looks fantastic and at a healthy framerate. If you notice on other car simulation games, the refraction framerate is noticeably lower than the ingame one, this is often done to preserve processing power. In the trailer it is also difficult to notice bump mapping to any great extent and perhaps the game is a bit too “clean” looking. With the aid of shaders and more powerful 3D graphics, you would hope to see more variation or perhaps real-time damage effects on the grass and surroundings. No word on included damage for the cars yet of course and it really does need to be added to help evolve the series.
Issues aside though the game is indeed looking very slick but it has some very good competition from the likes of GTR2 on the PC and Forza 2 on the XBOX360.

Looking forward to playing GT5 as I’m a big fan of the ‘real driving simulation’. I wonder how it plays with the much rumoured force feedback and new SIXAXIS controller?
