Bad news for Gran Turismo fans, the next ‘real driving simulator’ from Polyphony has been – surprise, surprise – delayed. In an interview with American car magazine ‘Car and Driver’, Kazunori Yamauchi has said he doesn’t expect Gran Turismo 5 to be ready until at least Spring 2008…
Why the long wait? Yamauchi needs more time to get it perfect and Sony are willing to push back its release date to the end of 2008 to meet his satisfaction. There maybe a possibility that GT5 might be on sale in Christmas next year, but if you consider that it takes 180 days for an artist to build just one vehicle, then time is at an essence.
As for damaging-modelling, Yamauchi believes that some car manufacturers don’t like the idea to see their production models being smashed into pieces. In addition, to perfect the damage system convincingly, the game programmers must adjust the physics model to make it react realistically, from different lighting and shadows.
It’s ironic that Microsoft’s Forza Motorsport 2 and Project Gotham Racing 3 has no such problems – perhaps it has more resources (money) to buy the necessary licenses to do so?
So in the meantime, just enjoy the current Gran Turismo HD demo for a year or so.

GT5 delayed????!! Well I never saw that coming. I’d say we in the UK are looking at 2009. Which I might add, I predicted on the run up to the UK launch lol. However hopefully it’ll stillbe region free so no worries there then. However,
This is taking the piss. Were are talking about a developer so close to Sony it may as well be it’s brother. I just hope all this time they actually make a new game. The menu music, the horrible tire screeching, the same old HUD, just drive around a track, opposition AI, it’s all got to go. Not to mention any plans of ” Pay as you play ” crap.
As for damage, well sorry but Yamauchi your talking out of your bottom. Lambos, Ferraris, Astons all allow damage in Forza oh did I mention Porsche? Are going to stump up the money to use them this time round? RUF are good, but come on! Anyways damage was always going to become the norm at some point, and there is just not even the slightest excuse for Polyphony not to include it.
This is not good enough. I’ve not bought a single game since launch, OK so I never expected GT5 any time soon, but there is not a single game
A) worth buying
B) Has anything actually been released since launch?
Anything that is decent is out on 360 first or been delayed for the PS3 only. The latest victime being Fatal Inertia ( indefinately ). Maybe not the best game in the world, it’s more of the same old sweet FA for the PS3.
I never thought I’s regret buying a PS3, but well, I do. It sucks sooooo bad atm.
And I thought the GT demo was shite.
For clucks sake Sony pull your finger out. I’m off tp play The Darkness on my 360 with a lovely controller that actually feels like it was made for more than 10p

LOL Snige. Being honest, I completely finished GT1 I haven’t been able to get my head around the others haven’t had as much time to complete them also the games feel very big with too many side races rather than pure GT.
