Jeremy Clarkson is at again by casting doubts on the future of the popular motoring show, Top Gear. The television presenter and journalist claims that while the BBC2 programme has become the most watched television shows, with viewing figures climbing “like like an F-15 on combat power”, the show is facing serious problems that might effect its own future.
The first point according to Clarkson follows on from Richard Hammond’s miraculous recovery from his much reported jet-powered dragster crash and his momentous return to the show, the production schedule has been horribly effected by several months.
Clarkson states it takes about half a year to produce a season and this delay by Richard’s accident has put the production team behind schedule for the new tenth series. Even if the new show were to return in October, which he believes the new series could air, the presenter is worried that he disgruntled the many fans, who lamented the lack of content in the hastily-produced and recently-concluded ninth season.
“The series that’s just finished was full of us three cocking about, and almost completely devoid of anything you might fairly call a ‘road test,’” surmised Clarkson in his recent column. “This has gone down very badly with the people in internet land.”
Clarkson fears that the television audience don’t want to see him and his fellow presenters – Hammond and James May – just driving around Ferraris and Lamborghinis all the time, but rather be entertained. And if the tenth series is shown, it might face the danger of being a watered-down version without that many amusing features like the road trip across North America or the amazing race challenges.
So it is down to the viewers. What do you want to see in the new series of Top Gear? More road tests or perhaps some entertaining features like building a Space Shuttle out of a Reliant Robin?

I don’t mind them driving around in expensive cars, its kewl escapism. And safe from the armchair.
