Pricey downloads for Xbox 360’s Guitar Hero II

Xbox 360 Guitar Hero II

With the recent release of Activision and RedOctane’s popular music rhythm game on the Xbox 360 with Guitar Hero II, gamers are outrage by the high prices set by the publishers for new downloadable tracks to strum to.

Currently, there are three new song packs available to download on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Each pack contains three tracks from the original Guitar Hero (which made its debut on the PlayStation 2 version) but with a price of 500 Microsoft Points, or in money terms: $6.25.

Track Pack 1 includes covers of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Bark at the Moon,” The Exies’ “Hey You,” and Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades.”

Track Pack 2 includes Queen’s “Killer Queen,” The Donnas’ “Take it Off,” and The Edgar Winter Group’s “Frankenstein.”

And the final batch is Track Pack 3, featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Higher Ground,” Bad Religion’s “Infected,” and Incubus’ “Stellar.” Each song has been revised with new bass or rhythm section to better fit the sequel’s new and improved multiplayer mode.

In addition, two new picture packs and a theme for the game has been added to the Marketplace. These download focuses on Guitar Hero’s likeable characters including Judy Nails and the Grim Ripper.

The picture packs each cost 100 points ($1.25), while the theme runs 150 points ($1.87). According to Activision, “fresh new songs and other exciting content” for the game will arrive on a monthly basis.

But despite all these bonus items, is it value for money for Xbox 360 gamers? If you consider that all 48 songs of Guitar Hero were available on the PlayStation 2 version for only $40, do gamers feel a bit cheated by paying more (around $100) just to play these tracks on the Xbox 360?
