X-Files star David Duchovny has confirmed a movie sequel based on the popular science fiction television show is in the works. Both David and co-star Gillian Anderson will reprise the characters of FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully that made them famous.
The actor who played ‘Spooky’ Mulder in both the cult TV series and the 1998 movie, reveals X-Files creator Chris Carter and writer Frank Spotnitz are busy working on a script for the new film. The news comes after weeks of speculation surrounding Anderson’s involvement in the project.
Duchovny says, “This week, they’re starting some kind of road towards doing it (the film). Gillian and I both want to be in it now. We’re happy to do it. At this point all of the kind of fatigue and anxiety that we had towards the end of a nine-year run is gone.”
He jokes, “We’ve forgotten why we hate one another and can only remember why we love one another and we’re very happy to go back. Chris and Frank are going over the story. It’s a story they’ve had for a few years but we haven’t all settled on the fact that we wanted to do it, so now they’re hammering it out.”
Will the new movie provide the ultimate answer to ‘the truth?’

Details about a new film featuring Mulder and Scully is moving closer to being made. David Duchovny, who plays Agent Fox Mulder, has told news reporters he will receive a script next week.
Duchovny and co-star Gillian Anderson are both “on board” to reprise their roles as alien-hunting special agents for the FBI.
The script has been written by creator Chris Carter and writer Frank Spotnitz, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The pair co-wrote the first X-Files movie, which came out almost a decade ago. The original thriller series was a hit when it ran from 1993-2002, winning three Golden Globes for best TV drama.
Duchovny was speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, promoting his new comedy Californication, in which he plays a novelist struggling with a complicated private life.
Hopefully the new film will be much better over ‘Fight The Future’ which hit the cinema back in 1998…
