Prepare to rock! As Harmonix announce Rock Band for Xbox 360 and PS3

Guitar Hero band

Despite losing the privilege to design and produce the next Guitar Hero, gaming developers Harmonix have revealed an exciting new multiplayer game for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Gaming giant Electronics Arts, music television show MTV and Harmonix will team up to bring us Rock Band.

According to an article in USA Today, Rock Band will simultaneously support four peripherals – two guitars (one base and one lead), a drum kit and a microphone. You can even jam with a group of friends or over the ‘net, providing the ultimate rock ‘n’ roll performance.

“You could have one guitarist in Germany and another one in Texas, a drummer in New York and a singer from somewhere else, and they can play together online,” says EA’s unshaken David DeMartini.

As for track listings, there will be no more cover versions of popular songs. This will be the real deal, with several music labels interested in providing original tracks to strum, beat and sing to!

No word on the individual songs as of yet, but some likely artists to be featured are: Allman Brothers, Joan Jett, Kansas, Nirvana and Wolfmother. Harmonix co-founder Alex Rigopulos added: “We’ll be covering a great breadth, from metal to classic rock to Southern rock to everything in between”.

In other related news, the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II might feature an additional peripheral, an Effects Pedal.

By plugging this to the port of the X-Plorer controller, you can play back tracks with new effects including distortion!

Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 is available now in the US with a European release on April 6th.

So turn it up to eleven and rock!

leaf have you got this game ?

    Looks pretty hot : )

Will the x-plorer guitar control that comes with the guitar hero 2 bundle work with this game? And can you play this game, say with just drums by yourself, not online?

The X-Plorer guitar should work. But for the SG guitar controller used by the PlayStation 2 this might be a bit of a problem. The reason? The PlayStation 3 is not compatible with old controllers… A special USB adapter will be needed to make old PS2 controllers work on the PS3.

You can either play this game entirely offline with four friends or online. It’s quite flexible to be honest.

I’m looking forward to this fantastic game with much enthusiasm.
