Immersion and Sony Computer Entertainment enter into business agreement after a long debated dispute over licensing fee’s for the use of rumble support on the Playstation platform.
“We are pleased to have put this litigation behind us,” said Immersion CEO Victor Viegas. “Our new business agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment is specifically intended to enable advanced vibration capability for the benefit of the PlayStation gaming community. We are happy to provide our technology in this regard and hope to make technical proposals very soon with respect to use of our technology in the PlayStation products.”
Kazuo Hirai, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc had this to say:
“We look forward to exploring with Immersion exciting new ways to bring the largest and best range of gameplay experiences to our customers. We are very excited about our new partnership with Immersion and the potential for new and innovative products incorporating their technologies.”
This is great news if it means that rumble support will be re-introduced as I found it a welcome addition since the N64 days. With games like Gran Turismo 5 of which would benefit greatly with Force Feedback control and Metal Gear Solid making subtle use of tactile feedback for certain actions, the user once again can feel more involved. Are you a fan of rumble and force feedback in general or just find it annoying?

Yeah, the PS3 is sorely missing the rumble. OK so I have not played on one yet, but I would/will ( based on the fact I will be getting one sometime ) miss the rumble. We are so used to it now. COD3 on the 360 just wouldn’t be the same. And the ( LOL ) “rumble” strips on on GT-HD/download/$$$$$$$/5 would miss it greatly. Sony have got to sort this out.
