Sony Pictures have just announced that Konami’s tactical espionage action game Metal Gear Solid will be turned into a motion picture.
The popular stealth-based video game follows the missions of Solid Snake and his cohorts as they fight to bring down terrorists. Since the first game appeared in 1987, the franchise has sold over 20 million units.
When questioned on the new movie, Yair Landau (Sony Pictures Entertainment vice chairman) said: “We’re working with the Metal Gear guys (Hideo Kojima and the developers at Studio Kojima). It’s a very cinematic game, it really lends itself to movie telling. But the question is, ‘How do you translate Snake’s experience into a full arc that conforms to what audiences expect on the large screen?’”
Good question Landau and I fear the storytelling in this new film might not work out; key example was Square Pictures adaptation of Final Fantasy.
Michael De Luca (of Ghost Rider and Zathura) will produce the Metal Gear Solid picture.
As for who will play the leading role, how about Kurt Russell?

I think Kurt Russell would be an ideal candidate, I’m not sure of what it was but I saw a movie starring him and people referred to him as snake, i actually thought it was MGS until realising the plot was totally different ( I caught the movie midway through ).

You’re thinking of either Escape From New York (classic) or Escape From L.A. (dire follow up) in which Kurt Russell played Snake Pliskin an ex special forces turned criminal. He was also good in Soldier.
We are never told Snakes ages in the MGS games so he could possibly be in his forties.

Why doesent anyone want to see dave hayter play snake again, he is the reason i love the series so much he is hard as nails but he still has a nievity about him, dave hayter even looks a lot like dave snake almost as if hideo modeled snake on hayter.
