Guitar Hero on Nintendo Wii!

Its great to see strong support for the highly successful Nintendo Wii games console. During a conference, CEO Mike Griffith stated that Guitar Hero will be rocking its way to the Wii.

The key difference in our strategy versus the prior cycle, is that in addition to full support on Sony and Microsoft platforms, we will aggressively target the Nintendo platforms consistent with our multi-platform strategy and Nintendo’s expected growth. In fiscal 2008, we will double our offerings on the DS and the Wii, including Spider-Man, Shrek, Transformers, and Guitar Hero.

There was no confirmation of release dates, downloadable tracks and online play. I would suspect though that there will be no online play and it would be difficult to have downloadable tracks unless you had a large enough external memory card. However this is great news for Nintendo fans to be able to play such an awesome game.

Also there was no hint as of yet if they would be using the motion sensors of the Wiimote and Nunchuk for the game. I predict though that they would probably make a mode where you use the Wiimote to act as the fret board like in EyeToy Play 2, and the nunchuck to strum as well as releasing their Guitar controllers to be compatible with the Nintendo Wii. What would be a nice addition though is a mini drum game using two Wiimotes so it would be like GuitarFreaks and Drummania - Two people on Guitar and one on drums for a jamming session.

Now that these music games are getting some recognition it would be nice if Konami would wake up and release Guitar Freaks & Drummania over here…

This is fantastic news. I simply adore Guitar Hero - I play this all the time on my PlayStation 2. The Wii version will be very special and I’m fascinated how the Wii Remote and Nunchuk will come into play.

That is if they decide to use the Wiimote and Nunchuck! I forgot to update my original post with this so I’ll add it here too…

My guess is that they’ll bring out a SG Guitar controller as well for the Wii and have it connected via USB, be it wired or wireless. What would be interesting though if they also developed a mini Drumming game using two Wiimotes to go alongside the two guitars… Now that would be sweet!
