Due to the popularity of this franchise, Viz Media has signed an agreement with Nippon Television Network Corporation which will offer the Death Note animé available via digital download in the USA.
Currently no release date has been announced but it seems there will be options to either “Own” or “Rent” the episodes soon after their original airing date. No pricing scheme has been announced just yet.
This is the first time that a top animé franchise will be available for legal download in the USA while it is still airing in Japan. Is this the future of things to come? Will the episodes be edited? Only time will tell, but what are your thoughts about legal digital distribution of animé?
