After years of script development on a new adventure featuring the famous archaeologist, producer and director George Lucas has revealed that the new movie will be ready for a May 2008 release.
Harrison Ford will be back in the role of Doctor Indiana Jones, even though he will turn 65 this July. The Hollywood star is determined to “bring the same physical action” to a fourth movie as he did to the first three.
The original Indiana Jones trilogy was a tribute to Saturday morning B-movies, and made more than $1.1bn (£560m) at the box office in the 1980s.
It began in 1981 with Raiders of the Lost Ark, in which archaeologist Dr. Jones raced around the world to find the Ark of the Covenant before it fell into the hands of the Nazis.
The first movie was a global success, so the team of Steven Spielberg (director) and George Lucas (writer) continued the series with Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984, followed by Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989.
Since then, rumours of a fourth chapter has been circulating for around ten years. And this news announcement means that each of the key participants will regroup to make the new Indiana Jones.
“George, Harrison and I are all very excited,” Spielberg said. “We feel that the script was well worth the wait. We hope it delivers everything you’d expect from our history with Indiana Jones.”
The film will be produced by Lucasfilm Ltd. and will be released worldwide by Paramount Pictures, the parent company of DreamWorks.
As of this moment, the title of the new film as well as the plot is being kept under wraps.

I’m a big fan of Harrison Ford and the role of Doctor Indiana Jones is certainly one of my favourites.
More on the new movie:
Screenwriter David Koepp (Spider-Man, Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds) has succeeded in pulling off what several other top screenwriters had failed at: provide an Indiana Jones sequel that would satisfy the three principals – George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Harrison Ford.
The three confirmed on Monday that they plan to begin filming Koepp’s script – a title was not disclosed – for the fourth Indiana Jones film in June, with a May 2008 target for worldwide release.
The last Indiana Jones move, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, was released by Paramount in 1989. Spielberg told reporters, “We feel that the script was well worth the wait. We hope it delivers everything you’d expect from our history with Indiana Jones. … George, Harrison and I are all very excited.”
