Nip/Tuck season 4 preview

Nip/Tuck

The latest series of the glamorous and disturbingly drama returns to Sky One this month. Nip/Tuck is a unique American show that focuses on two doctors who work in a south Florida plastic surgery centre, McNamara-Troy.

For those who are not familiar with this programme, let’s have a brief recap on the characters and controversial storylines.

Sean McNamara (played by Dylan Walsh) is having problems at home, trying to keep his family together, trying to patch up the rocky road him and his wife Julia (British actress Joely Richardson) are experiencing. On the other hand, sex-craved Christian Troy (the handsome Julian McMahon) uses his charm to bring in potential female candidates and conducts shady business deals, often for the love of money.

While Sean takes his job seriously, he often has to fix Christian’s mistakes. During the first season, Sean and Christian got mixed up with Escobar Gallardo, a Colombian drug lord who forced the two to do free surgery whenever he wanted them to.

Sean’s marriage with Julia began to wear thin, and Sean had an affair with a patient named Megan O’Hara. Julia went back to school, but it was interrupted by a miscarriage of a child Sean and Julia were trying to have.

Christian learned he is the father of a baby with a woman named Gina (Jessalyn Gilsig), who he met at Sexaholics Anonymous. When the baby was born, we learn that the baby is African-American, and therefore not his. Julia questions Matt’s paternity.

In the second season, we see Sean and Christian both turning 40, and Christian playing father for Wilbur, who Gina is letting him take care of, until Wilbur’s real father fights him for custody.

Sean and Julia are quite happy together again until Christian’s loneliness after Wilbur was taken away from him causes her to reveal that Matt is really his son. The secret ripples and eventually Sean finds out, causing a separation between Sean and Julia. He and Christian find a way to stay friends.

In season 3, a serial rapist named the Carver has been raping victims around Miami, and slices their face, and Sean makes a commitment to fixing their faces. Ava (Famke Janssen), a life coach for Sean and Julia, forms a sexual relationship with Matt, which is doomed from the beginning due to a wide age gap and Ava’s screwed up son Adrian.

With season 4 Sean has come to realize that his financial success can’t mask his family problems, including his relationship with his disillusioned wife, Julia and troubled son, Matt (John Hensley).

Likewise, single and promiscuous Christian is discovering that his lucrative career and good looks no longer bring him enough emotional satisfaction, as evidenced by his failed engagement to sexy and confident Kimber (Kelly Carlson). Opinionated Dr. Liz Cruz (Roma Maffia) serves as the team’s anaesthesiologist.

In the fourth season premiere, Sean and Christian celebrate a milestone surgery and receive an interesting proposition from patient Burt Landau, a wealthy medical venture capitalist who wants bigger testicular implants, and his much younger wife, Michelle.

Nip/Tuck: Season 4 returns to Sky One on January 8th at 10.00pm.

I missed it on the 8th - is it repeated before next mondays episode ?

Sky One doesn’t do repeats like E4. So if you missed it, that is just hard luck.

The new series of Nip/Tuck is quite good. Yes, it contains too many sex scenes especially with Christian, but the story lines is as strong as it used to be.
