The Land of the Rising Sun are obsessed with the Nintendo DS but why? A new survey results has shed some light revealing why the Japanese love their handheld gaming.
The questionnaire – which focuses on the DS, DS Lite, Game Boy Advance and PlayStation Portable – gives some interesting statistics.
• 45% of the people surveyed have a portable gaming device. With the Nintendo Game Boy Advance being the most popular (24.1%), followed by the two Nintendo DS models (17.9% and 14.4% for the original and Lite version respectively). Sony’s PlayStation Portable scored 10.7%.
• 31.8% of DS Lite owners use their portable game system everyday compared with 14.7% of PSP users.
• 54.6% of gamers play brain training-type games on a regular basis, followed by 37.3% playing role playing games.
• 60.7% said Nintendo DS games were more interesting, while 59.6% like the idea of using touch.
It goes to show how popular Nintendo are at its home market and why it has remained the trendsetter for portable gaming. Not even Sony can match that success rate with the PSP.
