Ever wondered what the Nintendo Wii controller would have looked like if the Japanese firm didn’t go for the ‘remote control’ concept we known now?
Well, this scanned image taken from a Japanese weekly magazine Nikkei Business features a number of Wii controller prototypes.
You can see that two of the designs were inspired by television remote controls, with the far left pre-Wiimote coming closest to the final version.
That familiar looking Wavebird-style controller, in the bottom right corner, seems inspired by the early PlayStation 3 pad. But instead of a boomerang, Nintendo was clearly going for that Frisbee look and feel.
As for the Giant Star Button, this looks cute but would be impractical for game play. With only a single-button, do you just press the star to win the game instantly?
