In a surprising move from Square-Enix, the next chapter of the Dragon Quest series is now coming to the dominant platform in Japan, the Nintendo DS.
Dragon Quest IX was intended to appear on Sony’s PlayStation 3 but the company has now decided to release this popular role playing game exclusively on the ‘touch and feel’ portable gaming system.
Level 5 will be developing the game, with Dragon Quest IX: Defender of the Starry Sky hitting Japanese retail shelves sometime around 2007. The game will also feature 4-player co-op play.

Ah thats great news for DS owners ^_^ I was kinda hoping that it would be on the Wii as it needs more liller RPGs than just Zelda. Hopefully SquareSoft will be thinking about porting some RPGs to the Wii - Even if they don’t make full use of the Wiimote I’ll be happy just ot see some more quality 3rd Party support.
