National Championship Chapter 01
Seigaku continues their quest to the Nationals but now they meet the best schools in Japan to win the coveted championship. Ryoma Echizen returns from America where he won the US Open as a wildcard to meet up with his team mates back in Japan to find Seigaku’s Captain Tezuka fully fit from his elbow injury after his long rehab in Germany. After making his presence felt, the tournament gets underway with Rokkaku Middle School against Higa Middle School. Unlike previous tournaments the games will be alternated between singles and doubles and each match will be played, regardless of who-ever has won out of the best of 5 sets.
However Ôishi delivers a bombshell to the team by demanding a serious game with Echizen to see who will play in the tournament between them both. The game becomes one sided and it is apparent that Ôishi’s wrist injury from the Kantou tournament has yet to fully heal and he concedes his place for Echizen. Now with the final players roster decided Seigaku goes up against Higa Middle School in an epic fight for victory.
It has been a long time coming for this series to return as well after the TV series ended at 178 episodes long. The manga continues to sell well and a new OVA was born just to focus on the National Championship arc. The quality of animation has stepped up a few levels now that they are not working on a TV budget with more lavish special effects and camera angles. The classic music however is retained to it still sounds as camp and cheesy as ever before. As first episodes go its not the most explosive you will ever see but fans of Prince of Tennis will already know that - Prince of Tennis can have moments where they like to drag out scenes by slowing the pace right down to build the climax up but its not as badly done like in DragonBall Z for example. The tennis action here is good but builds up for what happens next in Chapter 2 where we get to see Echizen in full flow.

Yeah I have been a bit busy to update on the rest of the series. Expect some in the following weeks though as things ramp up in the world of Prince of Tennis! If yo uhave enjoyed the TV series and the movie, be sure to check this one out too!

While it was not mentioned I believe he did win the US Open before he returned to Seigaku ^_^ I should have a roundup of the whole OVA series instead of doing a series by series analysis. Its been pretty good so far ^_^

And it does seem to be on its way. I’m so behind on writing up about this series but it will come! Its only 13 episodes long it seems for the first OVA but 8 have been released (well, subtitled) thus far. After that there will be a new OVA.
