It has been announced that 4Kids will no longer adapt any further episodes of the epic One Piece franchise. Thus far 4Kids have dubbed 104 episodes of this quality animé and 78 of which has aired in the USA. Why does this not surprise me so much? 4Kids created one of the worst dubs I have ever heard for an animé in recent times which has put a lot of fans off, never mind trying to gain new ones in the USA. Also this animé has swearing, blood, physical action scenes, smoking and more to go along with the comedy and drama and most of this was edited out for the US dub.
While fans can still continue to watch this series (currently on episode 289 in Japan) it is a shame that not more care was given to this fantastic animé. It didn’t even get the dignity of an uncut DVD release as well which has hurt 4Kids reputation as a valid distributor of animé. Hopefully this is a lesson learnt by those who want to pick up a large animé franchise - Listen to the fans and put some effort into it. A sloppy production won’t save anything.
R.I.P US One Piece, we never really got to know you in your true light.

I should actually update this article as Funimation has now secured the rights and the dub will be handled by the same team that worked on the highly acclaimed Full Metal Alchemist. Granted though I do agree with you that the manga is indeed better Kat ^_^
