Zone Alarm & Nintendo WiFi for Wii and DS

Yes you can use Zone Alarm with the Nintendo WiFi USB adapter without turning it off or indeed un-installing it. How? Well follow these steps…

1. Open Zone Alarm and click on the Program Control Tab

2. Scroll down the list and find the “Nintendo WiFi Connector USB” item

3. Change the Trust Level to Trusted and tick the boxes for Access (Trusted & Internet) and Server (Internet)

4. Click on the Add button found on the bottom right. Go to the folder called “WiFiConnector” and double click on “SoftAPUninst.exe“. Do the same steps for “DEVREMOVE.exe“.

5. Click on the Firewall tab and in the Internet Zone Security section click on “Custom

6. For both Incoming and Outgoing TCP Ports enter these values - 28910, 29900, 29901, 29920, 433, 80. Click on Apply for both.

That should be it. Test the settings on your DS as its quicker than on the Wii. If it fails try lowering the Internet Zone Security level to Medium and it will work. I have these exact settings on the laptop and it worms without a hitch. On my main PC it even works on the Internet Zone Security on High too.

I’ve just tired this, still doesn’t work for me.

    Any tips?

I would suggest an upgrade to the new ZoneAlarm 7.0 as it seems to have fixed this issue when I had it installed.

If you are stuck with 6.5 however then there isn’t much I can do sadly… ZoneAlarm recently have been a bit incompatible with some programs such as Live Messenger.
