Ubuntu love

Ubunto is a Linux distro based off the Debian branch… And its picking up fans at a rapid pace. However once you’ve installed the open source operating system wouldn’t you like to add a bit more to play with? LifeHacker.com has compiled a Top Ten list of programs and additions you should have on your distro so be sure to check them out.

Most of them are pretty obvious already but one of them caught my eye and its a GUI replacement shell called “XGL/Compiz”. Pictures are worth a thousand words, so I wonder what reaction you’ll get to this video running Ubuntu and XGL/Compiz… Enjoy!

P.S Doesn’t parts of the music sound like it came form the classic Dizzy games of yesteryear? :P

Hmmm… Does indeed look good but, i’d say it would take some power to run it.

although i like the rest of the idea’s there, might have to install some of those things when i get round to using ubuntu.

  2. NeoBlade says:

Its mainly done on the graphics card, so your PC spec is plenty to achieve such effects. On my age old rig though it would struggle so I’m not even going to try it lol

  3. Janus says:

I believe this is still in development so i think i’ll wait til it advances a bit more to even try it.

Very clever and interesting choice of movie played on the DVD player… (FYI it’s Tom Cruise in Minority Report)

The ability to switch different windows reminds me of the Mac OSX but not that fast or fluid. Impressive stuff.

I agree you will need a high performance graphic card to have all this eye candy.

Got that spades! will be using this maybe in the future.
