It was mentioned long ago that the PS3 would have Linux running via its hard drive. Not much details have been known since… Until now. Yes Linux will indeed be running on the PS3 and here are the gritty details…
Naturally since its Linux and the applications are open source, they can be upgraded in due time. This is big news as you could effectively use the PS3 as a desktop PC, something that Sony have been stressing since its conception. However Sony has yet to give the official word about the Yellow Dog v5 distro. It seems though that it won’t be much longer and it just be that final push that warrants that high price tag. If coders can seriously tap into the PS3 power for applications then instead of being an expensive console, it could be deemed as a cheap piece of hardware that not only powers PC applications but also plays videogames. We’ll see how this turns out as it could easily work out as a cheap desktop replacement.

assigning each an allotment of space with seperate access by them and allowing me access is this site suitable for my needs or is it as it seems just too good to be true???

What you need is a reseller account, and the linux hosting is cheap and affordable. Take a look at eleven2.com for their reseller packages.
