Madrid ban skinny models

model

I've never been a fan of skinny models myself but I know a lot of teenagers are obsessed about being thin. To me whenever I see them I just think… They need to go on a kebab diet. However pretty much everywhere you look you see thin, anemic girls portrayed as glamourous and sexy. At long last people are beginning to stand up in saying that such a figure is often not natural and creates a negative illusion that all females must look like a garden rake.

Madrid’s regional government, which is co-financing the Pasarela Cibeles has prevented skinny models to participate in their shows due to health issues and creating the wrong image that females must look like this to be attractive. I'd say its about time because like the earlier statement I'm not a fan… If you look at Posh for example she just looks constantly ill and such an image would put me off just glancing.

In this fast paced obbsessive world that is fashion, why is being skinny the most important thing in a female's life? Especially over one's own health? Maybe some female readers could shed some light to this objective writer…

I’m in Agreement here, I’ve never really considered these people to be attractive manly because it’s just such an unnatural design. One that no doubt has come from human perfectionism gone to the extreme.

Same here. Do you know the media has branded these models as ‘Size Zero’?

It’s true that some young women, who look in fashion magazines and catwalk models, would love to have that shape/figure. They will go to extreme lengths to get that look by refusing to eat.

But that lifestyle is become too elite and instead be happy in this real-life situation of modern living (as in, you eat what you want and enjoy an healthy diet).

This thin model is taking a bit too far.

Ah yeah read about this didn’t thing of blogging it. Apparently quite a few models were turned away. They were carrying out BM body mass tests on them and any that were below the mark were simply turned away. Good move imo. I believe D&G made a huge huff over these skinny models and were among the first to get rid of them for that show.

This is crap; how far do people have to go in the name of “self-esteem issues”, AKA making fat girls feel better about themselves before someone finally says “enough”??! First of all, a BMI of 18 for girls is FAT if you have a small frame; I’m 5′7 and 95 lbs, for some people that is just normal, especially if they don’t just marinate on their fat a$$eS all day.. Second of all, it is no more the place of a regulatory agency to force these girls to get fat or to force designers to hire fat girls than it is the place of the city of NY to ban trans fat or for some other agency to force porkers to exercise and eat less. This is not the role of government, this bunny-hugging, ’save-you-from-yourself liberalism must end!

Dixie: If a person isn’t “skinny” it doesn’t necessarily mean s/he’s “fat”. There *is* something in between - it just might take some more time to find that balance than others. Also, models have to be 5ft 8″ at least, so for someone of that height to have a BMI of 18 or under is pretty bad. It’s not just a matter of boosting self-esteem, but rather building awareness about one’s health.
There are way too many ill-looking, airbrushed models out there who are plastered with make-up that younger girls look up to. It’s not right, and it can hurt people both physically and psychologically. Such damage-causing influences should be dealt with, and it’s about time they started doing something about it.
