Warrior

You held on so strong,
To all those things that you loved,
You refused to give in,
Even when all you saw was blood.
The agony wouldn’t stop you,
Even though you burned with pain,
No one came to save you,
For it was you who were the brave.
Against all and everything,
Your heart alive like fire,
Your rage it did become you,
But eventually you had to tire.
And as your body slowed,
No mercy was shown at all,
The blows were swift and crushing,
Their voices shrill and coarse.
But for a moment you dreamed that someone,
To whom you could have called,
Some divine Angel saviour,
Rescued you from it all.
On the softest wings she took you,
Far above the clouds,
And at last you would know joy,
Never again would you frown.
Your wounds were all but healed,
Your soul no longer torn,
The pain had all but left you,
And you could live your life reborn.
Free of all the heartache,
Free of all the pain,
No more lonely nights,
Putting on the bravest face.
But then you were the champion,
No Angel would heed your call,
And so as you looked up in vain,
The final blow did fall.
