F1 could be going green as soon as 2009 as a new radical shift for the sport it seems. As it stands F1 was always about the piniccle of motorsport in terms of driving skill, management, efficiency and technology. However spiralling operational costs have cuased the FIA to impose rules such as engines lasting for two races, grooved tyres to slow the cars down, aerodynamic alterations and more. With fuel costs ever rising the FIA has seen this as an oppertunity to have some of the best designers in motorsport to work on fuel efficiency as one of the main objectives.
Hybrid cars are starting to filter through but the technology still costs far too much for the average consumer. If F1 joins in and goes green, we will see plenty of innovation and efficiency discoveries that not only will help save the sport in the future (according to Max Mosley) but motorsport consumers worldwide - Any successful technologies developed could then be passed down to commercial cars of today.
With the wake of global warming and carbon footprints, F1 have seen this as an oppertunity to help show what can be done. Question is, is this the right way forward for F1 itself?

I remember reading an article in Autosport on Green Motorsport. The technology exist and it’s now up to the teams and motorsport’s governing body to adopt towards energy efficiency.
