Dead Rising Demo hits Xbox Live, First Impressions

DeadRising3

Last night Capcom unleashed the demo of their Zombie deathfest Dead Rising onto the Xbox Live Marketplace. For those unfamiliar with the game, you play journalist Frank West through his struggles to survive 72 hours in a shopping mall overrun with dead folk.
While the finished product will feature a sprawling mall environment, 250+ weapons and multiple missions to complete, the timed 15-minute demo only gave access to a small section of the mall, with roughly 40 items to find and no missions on offer. Because of this, repeated play can get repetitive; but we expect this to change in the final build.

The controls are easy to get to grips with, with easy access to Frank’s camera and inventory (as opposed to the Resident Evil series). The weapons that are available are impressive with easy-to-find everyday object (frying pan, cash register, baseball bat etc.) and deadlier weapons hidden away (i.e the katana). The only problem I found (although a minor one) was the font. Some of the writing is so small that you have a hard time reading it, but apparently this is fixed on HDTV’s.
Hopefully this’ll be changed in the final game.
