Soldiers use gaming skill in Iraq

Writing by Yink on Tuesday, 21 of March , 2006 at 5:15 pm

The raw feed reports on soldiers in Iraq using their gaming experiance as an advantage to help better operate large remote guns attached to armored vehicles.

“Experienced gamers have no difficulty gaining total situational awareness and whipping around the video camera on the guns, spotting hints of trouble and blasting anything that moves.” source

I guess from now on homework for trainee soldiers after the assault course, will be a few hours of Halo.

Fisichella wins in Sepang

Writing by walking leaf on Sunday, 19 of March , 2006 at 5:00 pm

Giancarlo Fisichella finally avenged the misfortune that has dogged him for more than a year by scoring the third win of his grand prix career in Malaysia on Sunday (March 12th).

The Italian started from pole position and drove a near-flawless race to withstand challenges from Honda’s Jenson Button and Renault team-mate Fernando Alonso.

The world champion eventually leapfrogged Button to seal Renault’s first 1-2 as a constructor since the 1982 French Grand Prix and cement its status as the team to beat in 2006.

Even though Fernando was handicapped in qualifying by starting the race with a heavy fuel load (there was a problem with the refuelling rig), it was a great performance by the Spanaird to finish second and extend his championship over his rivals.

Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher had to start the race from 14th position after an engine change and finished the race behind his team-mate, Felipe Massa, in sixth.

As for Kimi Raikkonen? The luckluss Finn had to retire on the first lap when his McLaren was hit from behind by Christian Klien at the preceding corner and with broken rear suspension he was a passenger as his McLaren veered off the road at 130mph.

But it was a good day for Jacques Villenueve (BMW Sauber) and Ralf Schumacher (Toyota) who scored their first points with seventh and eighth respectively.

A good race for Renault and we will see if the French team can keep up with its impressive start to the season in Melbourne in two weeks time.

Alonso takes first win of the year

Writing by walking leaf on Sunday, 12 of March , 2006 at 4:55 pm

The opening round of the 2006 FIA Formula One World Championship was great with plenty of racing action.

The Bahrain Grand Prix was a contest between the champions of the past and present - Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher - who both fought out a tense duel which resulted in victory for the Spaniard by only 1.246s.

Michael Schumacher’s pace signalled a major Ferrari revival this year, after the bitter disappointment of last year’s campaign. The 248 is competitive and this allow the German to fight for wins.

Michael came close to winning in today’s race (March 12th) but lost out - just - by Fernando and the excellent Renault team. It was very exciting as the Renault came out of the pits alongside the Ferrari into turn 1. Fernando edged out Michael and the race was won in a matter of inches!

Great team work by the Renault F1 team and even Fernando dedicated his latest victory to the winning organisation.

In third place, McLaren’s Kimi Raikkonen drove an excellent race from 22nd position. The Finn held off Jenson Button, who gave a magnificent exhibition of overtaking as he fought to make amends from a poor start.

But the star of the race was Nico Rosberg. After a clash with BMW Sauber’s Nick Heidfeld in the first corner on the opening lap, he pitted for brief repairs, losing 45 seconds, and then staged a superb recovery drive to seventh. On the way he twice set the fastest lap, leaving it at 1m 32.408s. Impressive!

The Past Long Forgotten…

Writing by Atreu Cell on Monday, 6 of March , 2006 at 8:12 am

The Angel Child tried to fight,
with broken wings in vain,
They wouldn’t let it live its life,
purity drove them insane.

Don’t promise anything they said,
you’ll fail that much is sure.
Don’t try at all dear child they said,
for all you know is false.

Your dreams are nothing but emptiness,
your heart bitter and cold.
Your fears are real not in your head,
don’t deny them life at all.

So live as a shadow they say,
the light always behind.
In the darkness live they say,
for there your path you’ll find.

There’s no point in believing,
in any hopes at all.
There’s no point in deceiving,
yourself that you won’t fall.

So hush dear child close your eyes,
there’s nothing more to see.
Don’t bother or even dare to cry,
this is reality.

So the wind it blew so vacant,
and the sky turned to red.
No one knew what they said,
to the child heaven sent.

Lupin The Third (Manga)

Writing by Janus on Saturday, 4 of March , 2006 at 6:31 pm

Lupin III: v. 1

So to start off I’d like to say that I’ve always wanted to be a thief and have to that end loved reading about them, But since I’m not an acrobat and don’t own a chateau so I’m not going to be able to accomplish that.

Right, Lets talk about Lupin, he is your normal thief; Self-serving most of the time but he does have another side to him. Patriot comes to mind when thinking about him. The most interesting side to the character is his love for the ladies! This man really would not let a beautiful Lady go by without trying. (Read more…)

Ape Academy

Writing by walking leaf on Saturday, 4 of March , 2006 at 12:10 pm

Ape Academy

Ape Academy fits into the ‘party game’ category – namely, it offers tons of short, easy-to-learn and addictive games that are designed to be played by a group of people. Or in this case, cute little primates.

The 50+ button-bashing interludes range from mini game staples such as bowling, air hockey and follow-my-lead rhythm games to more curious pursuits, like the matador simulator(!), or the ultra short (the game last an average 0.3 seconds) one-yard dash.

While the single player modes are loads of fun, it’s the multiplayer options that maked with the monkey magic. Head-to-head chimp challenges are available, with up to four players using a share PSP, as you share the controls. Going ‘ape’ with your ‘pri-mates’ has never been such a tempting prospect.

To be honest, this game is bizzare with surreal mini games. Similar in concept to Nintendo’s Wario Ware series (short and frantic mini games). There’s an amazing amount of stuff to do, and it’s fantastic. When was the last time you guarded a giant banana against an onslaught of ravenous zombie-apes? Exactly… Monkey Magic at it’s best on the PSP!

As a fan of Nintendo’s Wario Ware on the Game Boy, I always enjoy the bizarre and amusing mini games offered by Wario. The cute graphics and simple gameplay kept me addicted.

This also applies to the wonderful Super Monkey Ball on the GameCube. Those mini party games (once you have unlocked them by collecting a number of points) are the stars. Monkey Target, Monkey Grand Prix and Monkey Fight are fantastic in multiplayer mode.

To see these two games combined into one, is great for those seeking mad monkey action!

Final Verdict

Fantastic monkey action. Love Super Monkey Ball and Wario Ware? Put them together and you have Ape Academy. Crazy and addictive party games for evertyone! 8/10

WipEout Pure

Writing by walking leaf on Saturday, 4 of March , 2006 at 12:06 pm

WipEout Pure

Arcade thrills are what the PSP has been made for, and if it’s fast and furious gameplay you are looking for, then it doesn’t come much faster (and it’s hard to imagine anything more furious) than WipEout Pure.

From the off, this WipEout offeres ultra-fast racing action, combined with bonus weapons and the sort of track designs that usually reserved for the fairgrounds (corkscrews and banked turns).

Massive tracks undulate widely, with swooping downhill chjcanes mixing it up with visually stunning environments and strategically placed power-ups and bonus features.

Frankly, it’s hard to believe that a better hi-octane racing game will appear on the PSPfor some time.

Having seen the Pure in action, we’re convinced that it’s sure to do for the PSP what the original did for the PSone when that was released way back in 1995. One of the original PSone games, the first WipEout impressed not only potential PSone buyers, but also those wavering betweenthe PSone and Sega’s very decent but underpowered Saturn console.

Flash forward ten years and we come bang up to date with WipEout Pure. There are a total of 16 tracks (12 original ones, plus four more from the four previous WipEout games), a Wi-Fi mode that lets up to eight players go head-to-head and even downloadable content to expanded the game further (including new tracks, skins and possibly music mixer).

But why the name Pure? That’s easy to answer. Sony has simplified the gameplay, cut out a lot of the guff that hampered the previous sequels and returned to a free-flowing and action-packed control system that feels and plays much more like the original WipEout game – and we certainly applaud Sony for making that decision.

As launch games go, it’s practically impossible to fault WipEout Pure. When (or indeed, if) you eventually tire of the main game, the fact that you can then challenge your mates to a race and download a whole raft of new content means it’s got to be high on everyone list.

Final Verdict
Gaming genius on a tiny, shiny disc. An amazing racing experience you can take with you wherever you can.Downloadable content will increase the time-scale spent in this fab game. 9/10
