Strike Witches from Gonzo in a nutshell was about, flying Loli’s with animal attributes strapped to rockets with lots of panty shots, but I will admit they did attempt to do the fan service slightly more tastefully than other shows I have encountered this season. The character designs though very cute are too young for my liking especially when all these girls seem to live in a parallel universe where no one seems to own a pair of trousers. This was Gonzo’s 3rd series to be streamed on Youtube, Crunchy Roll and Boost TV with official subtitles the same day it was released in Japan.
In the year 1939 the ‘Striker Unit’ was created to help the world against the attacking Neuroi. This weapon is powered by young girls who use their magical abilities to propel themselves through the skies and attack this threat head on. An elite task force has been set up called the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, or to use it’s common name the “Strike Witches”. When fourteen year old healer Yoshika Miyafuji is approached by major Mio Sakamoto to join the team more is revealed about who she is and her family than she first expected.
Although as cute as it is that the girls suddenly sprout ears and a tail whenever they use their magic, I’m still confused as to what the actual purpose of this was besides fan service, who knows maybe I missed that explanation in the show. For a Gonzo show the animation was surprisingly good and I think if the character designs weren’t quite as Loli I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more. Then again considering the character designs were from the same creator as Sky Girls, I’m not really surprised that it was all Loli flying girls with fan service and not much else. I’m sure the very young looking designs would appeal to certain audiences, with the series itself being watch able, nothing horrifically exciting though and after the first two episodes in all honesty I was really quite sick of seeing little girls flying around with guns bigger than themselves trying to save the world.
The whole plot of the series really wasn’t that interesting, the relationships between the characters were sweet at times but I didn’t find any of it remotely engaging. I personally wanted to like this series more than I did but in a season of fan service, Strike Witches failed to stand out for very much besides leaving me asking myself, why are they all in just their underwear all the time? and doesn’t it get very drafty flying around like that? I will note the only reason I probably got through this series was due to Saeko Chiba’s involvement as the seiyuu for the eye patch wearing Mio Sakamoto, possibly more due to me wanting to understand why she was involved if anything else, with the only character I actually liked being Eila Ilmatar Juutilainen the Finnish 15 year old who had pretty limited screen time anyway but her relationship with Sanya was very sweet.
Enjoyable enough if you like a lot of Loli fan service, personally I’ve already had my fair share this season and this series sadly did little to spark my interest or entertain me and by the end I was actually quite bored of it all.

If someone’s going to disagree with a review, at least back it up with some reasons. Wow, that’s so stupid, it’s funny.
Anyway, one look at this show caused a “wtf” reaction from me. I rather liked the humour in your review though.
